The Path to a Category B (Car) Driver's License in the Canton of Baselland

To obtain a learner's permit, please proceed as follows:

Download the application form and complete it.

Have an eye test performed by an optician or ophthalmologist (an official ID such as an identity card, passport, or residence permit must be presented before the test). Eyeglass prescriptions are not accepted as an eye test.

Have your personal details verified at your local municipal office. They will require:

1. the fully completed application,
2. two color passport photos (min. 35 x 45 mm, max. 45 x 60 mm, no profile shots, no head covering, no computer printouts, not older than 1 year),
3. the eye test (not older than 1 year),
4. the original, valid first aid certificate (not older than 6 years). The first aid course should be completed first!

We will accept your application and forward the documents directly to the Motor Vehicle Inspection Office (MFK) in Füllinsdorf.

The application form will no longer be issued to you by the Residents' Registration Office of your local municipality.

After your documents have been reviewed, we will send you an authorization and registration card for the basic theory test, which we will send to you no earlier than two months before you reach the minimum age. If you have already reached the minimum age when submitting your application, please allow several days for processing.

The learner's permit will be sent by mail within 10 working days of successfully passing the basic theory test. The learner's permit will only be issued after passing the basic theory test. (If no such test is required, the learner's permit will be issued if the prerequisites for obtaining it are met.)

You are now authorized to take driving lessons and complete the mandatory traffic awareness course (VKU).
